Summer, 2009
After a very intense week back at work, I'm lamenting that I never got the following post posted before my summer ended. Here it is in its peaceful entirety. Sigh. Ah what a wonderful summer it was!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm not sure how many times this summer I have thought, "I LOVE my job." There is nothing quite like having a solid 2 1/2 months off from life as usual to recharge and do whatever one wants to do. Last year at this time, my first summer off from taking grad classes, we were buried in boxes, packing and unpacking, as we moved to our new home. Now we've had a year to settle in and this is the first summer in 10 years that I have had to do with as I please.
The first several weeks I spent contentedly roaming around the house, working on whatever project interested me at the moment. I made sure I went to Costco when everyone else was at work and ran errands at off-times, all the while glorying in the opportunity. I watered my plants, allowing myself the therapy of digging in the dirt and planting and expanding my flower beds. I've made several relaxing trips to PA to hang out with my nephews and family. Oh, and the naps. Most days when 3 pm rolls around, I'm ready for a lovely snooze on the couch.
I have one more wonderful month left, which will fly by I'm sure, but savoring each moment of it will help when I'm back into the press of teaching and think longingly of those 3 pm summer naps...
Here are a few representative pictures of some of my fun summer projects/activities:
