Indescribable Turns One

on nov 16th of 2006, we took the step of posting a video edit of Indescribable on youtube to see what would happen.

if I had was one word to describe what happened - that word would be exponential. which is a really nice way of saying almost nothing.

things started out slow. really slow. It took more than month before i could get even a family member to post a comment - and we could barely get hundred hits. but a few months into it, things started taking off. and then about six months in - we started to see that the curve looked exponential ... we managed a thousand hits a month... and not long after accelerated to a thousand hits a week. we're now passing two thousand hits per week and a comment a day. and if you google youtube and indescribable, we're the first hit.

The stats for this first year include:

if you were not aware, youtube manages to generate legendary levels of dumbness in its comments section. i even recall an article of someone excavating the stupidity, to have humans quantify it, in the hope of training a computer to one day recognize and filter it. and we had our share of threads that ran, "youre dumb", "no, your dumb", "no ur dumb", "no u r teh dumbor" - but for the most part, we're pretty excited. It's with this in mind that I am pleased to present the following comments generated by the indescribable video after it's first year.

imagine what it would be like to be God... you get you create your own galaxies, solar systems, planets, comets, asteroirds, stars, mabye even universes. you would use the unfinished galaxies as your easel, your finger as your paintbrush. if you haven't even seen God's work through the Hubble Telescope, you won't be seeing them for a long time. when you look at pictures Hubble has taken, you realize just how much fun God must have being able to paint the universe.

I sent the link to all my Facebook friends, because it is a testimony to the magnificence of our God and His personal love for each of us. I am hoping you will make many more movies like this one. This is the best video to this amazingly inspiring song. My 4 year old son can sit with me and sing without fear of bloody images. The coordination of imagery well timed...riveting. I am working at a church as a missionary in Austria. Our church have regular retreats. I was preparing for one and thought I would love to start the retreat with a song / video of Incredible. So I looked on Youtube for some ideas.
However, your production is simply so good, I would be wasting my time trying to create my own video. a couple other little known facts:

• i spent two months gathering the source clips.
• i spent nine full days editing this.
• the editing was all done on laptop (with two external hard drives) in cairo egypt.
• the first people to see it were my wifes predominantly muslim class of egyptian first grader students (i was a guest lecturer on planets, space, and solar system that day!).
• we used this song and video at our wedding to establish common ground with our muslim friends in attendance. ("who am i" by casting crowns was selected to represent the classical christian perspective of a personal relationship with God).
